Nashville Calligraphers Guild’s eighth annual retreat, SCRIBEHAVEN, is fast approaching. What is Scribehaven? It is retreat for calligraphers at Lake Barkley State Resort in Kentucky. It is your weekend to experiment, work on unfinished projects or develop new ones. You can work at your own pace, or you may decide to simply relax and enjoy the fellowship of other kindred spirits who love the art of lettering as much as you do. Remember, this is YOUR weekend! Scribehaven is a retreat for calligraphers regardless of skill level.

The deadline to register is February 5, 2016. We have two, great programs this year. Those who attended last year will remember the samples that Laura Kraft and Kay McWhorter brought of their work, and they graciously agreed to do demos for us this year. Laura will be showing us a new, fun twist on card making called “A Little Layout Lagniappe.” Lagniappe is a Louisiana French word meaning a bonus or “a little something extra.” Kay McWhorter will be showing us how to create her lovely, miniature watercolors with her program “Tiny Watercolors.” I am excited and grateful that both of these talented ladies will share their gifts with us.

This wonderful, restful and inspirational weekend will be from February 25–28 (Thursday to Sunday). The park has great walking trails and a nice fitness center with a great indoor pool. Please consider joining us. Many of us arrive on Thursday to settle in, work on our own projects and simply fellowship. I hope to see you there.

Send your $25 non-refundable registration fee to Ann Cobb by February 5, 2016. You must be a Guild member to attend. Please make sure you have paid your dues for this year as space may be limited. Also, please make your own room reservations as soon as possible. A block of lodge rooms is being held for NCG members through the end of January. Call 270-924-1131 to make your room reservation and tell them you are with the Guild for the calligraphy retreat. Lodge rooms have two beds & balconies that overlook the lake, and they are all covered walking to the lodge (as well as meeting rooms & dining room). Cabins are available for an additional charge, but they are approximately one mile from the lodge so you would have to drive.

Lodge rooms are now $74.95. Discounts (government, AAA, AARP) do apply. Please don’t forget to ask for your discount. You can also share a room with someone — great way to save money and get to know someone. If you haven’t made your reservation, please do so. We have a block of rooms reserved for a limited time only. I understand there is a marriage retreat booked during that weekend as well as the Duck group.

Calligraphic hugs,
Vicki
