The Nashville Calligraphers Guild was formed in 1981 around the kitchen table of Betty Gilpin. Eight women would gather monthly for lunch and to compare notes on calligraphy and share any projects on which they were working. As others were added to the group, teachers were brought in for weekend workshops and the Nashville Calligraphers Guild was off and running. Their purpose was to foster the continued study, practice and use of calligraphy among its members and to encourage community awareness of the art of calligraphy.
For over 40 years, the NCG has been a thriving group of supportive, enthusiastic people who love the lettering arts. The guild meets five times a year, publishes a newsletter, organizes workshops, and has annual showings of members works. From beginner to professional, everyone is welcome in the Nashville Calligraphers Guild.
